Norway’s two great fjord journeys in one trip. This summer tour follows the classic Norway in a Nutshell route from Oslo to Bergen by train, mountain railway and fjord boat, then flies up the coast to Ålesund for the Geirangerfjord and finishes on the Atlantic Ocean Road. It suits couples, families and senior travellers who want the very best of the fjords in nine unhurried days, with central Thon hotels, private airport transfers and a porter for your bags on the Nutshell day.
Geiranger is the highlight. From Ålesund, a full-day excursion takes you into the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where the Seven Sisters and Bridal Veil waterfalls pour down sheer cliffs and old farms cling to the ledges. Next day a private driver takes you along the Atlantic Ocean Road, eight kilometres of road that leaps from island to island over curving bridges. Don’t miss the 418 steps up Mount Aksla in Ålesund for the view over the town’s Art Nouveau rooftops.
The first half is the famous Nutshell. After a guided tour of Oslo and a dinner cruise on the Oslofjord, you ride the Flåm Railway down to the fjord, spend a night in Flåm and cruise the narrow Nærøyfjord on your way to Bergen, with its guided sightseeing and the funicular up Mount Fløyen.
Why go now? This tour runs from 1 May to 30 September, when the fjord boats run their full summer timetable and the days are long. June to August is the most popular time — hotels in Flåm and Geiranger day trips fill months ahead, so book early for the Indian summer holidays. Good to know: the Nutshell and Geiranger journeys use scheduled trains, boats and buses, and the Oslo, Bergen and Geiranger tours are small-group tours; the Atlantic Ocean Road tour is private. In small villages like Flåm the order of days may change with hotel availability. A private transfer meets you at Oslo airport and takes you to your hotel in the city centre, next to the Opera House (about 50 km). The rest of the day is free. Overnight in Oslo.

Hand your main bag to the porter and board the morning train across the mountains to Myrdal, then ride the Flåm Railway down to the fjord (6 to 7 hours in all). The evening is free in Flåm village. Breakfast included. Overnight in Flåm.
After breakfast, cruise along the Aurlandsfjord and the narrow Nærøyfjord to Gudvangen, then continue by bus and train to Bergen (about 5 hours). Breakfast included. Overnight in Bergen.

After breakfast, make your way to Bergen airport for the short flight to Ålesund. Spend the afternoon exploring the Art Nouveau town centre, or climb the 418 steps up Mount Aksla for the view. Breakfast included. Overnight in Ålesund.
After breakfast, set off on a full-day excursion to the Geirangerfjord, cruising past the Seven Sisters and Bridal Veil waterfalls and the old farms on the cliffs, before returning to Ålesund in the evening. Breakfast included. Overnight in Ålesund.
After breakfast, take the bus from Ålesund to Molde (about 2 hours). In the afternoon, a private driver takes you on a 2.5-hour tour of the Atlantic Ocean Road and its island-hopping bridges. Breakfast included. Overnight in Molde.
