Oslo (2N) – Flåm (1N) – Bergen (2N)
Norway’s most famous journey, in six easy days. This tour takes the classic Norway in a Nutshell route — train, mountain railway, fjord boat and bus — from Oslo to Bergen, with a night in Flåm in between so you are never rushed. It suits first-time visitors, families, couples and senior travellers who want the fjords without long drives, with central hotels (Thon Opera in Oslo, Flåmsbrygga in Flåm, Thon Bristol in Bergen), private airport transfers and a porter for your bags on the travel day.
The Flåm Railway is the highlight. From Myrdal the little train drops 860 metres in under an hour, past waterfalls and through tunnels cut into the mountain, to the village of Flåm. Next morning a boat takes you through the Nærøyfjord, one of the narrowest fjords in the world and a UNESCO site, before the bus and train run on to Bergen. Don’t miss the view from the top of the Flåm Railway at Myrdal, and Bryggen’s wooden wharf houses in Bergen.
Oslo and Bergen frame the trip: a five-hour guided tour of the capital with the Holmenkollen ski jump and the Vigeland Sculpture Park, an evening dinner cruise on the Oslofjord, and in Bergen a guided walk and the funicular up Mount Fløyen.
Why go now? This tour runs all year. Summer brings long days and green valleys; winter turns the railway into a snowy postcard, with fewer crowds and lower hotel rates. Train and boat seats on the Nutshell route sell out in June, July and August, so book early for the school holidays. A private transfer meets you at Oslo airport and takes you to your hotel in the city centre, next to the Opera House (about 50 km). The rest of the day is free. Overnight in Oslo.
After breakfast, join a 5-hour guided tour of Oslo, including the Holmenkollen ski jump and the Vigeland Sculpture Park with its more than 200 sculptures. In the evening, enjoy a dinner cruise on the Oslofjord. Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight in Oslo.
Hand your main bag to the porter and board the morning train from Oslo across the mountains to Myrdal, then ride the Flåm Railway down to the fjord (6 to 7 hours in all). The evening is free in Flåm village. Breakfast included. Overnight in Flåm.
After breakfast, cruise along the Aurlandsfjord and the narrow Nærøyfjord to Gudvangen, then continue by bus to Voss and train to Bergen (about 5 hours). Breakfast included. Overnight in Bergen.
After breakfast, join a guided walking tour of Bergen and ride the funicular up Mount Fløyen for the view over the city and fjords. The afternoon is free for Bryggen, the fish market or Grieg’s home at Troldhaugen. Breakfast included. Overnight in Bergen.
After breakfast, a private transfer takes you to Bergen airport for your flight home (about 20 km).
