Rome, Florence and Venice are the three names most people say first when they dream of Italy, and this 7 Days Italy travel package brings them together in one easy week: the ancient capital of an empire, the city that gave the world the Renaissance, and a city built on water, with the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Juliet’s Verona on the way. It is planned and supported by IMAD Travel, an IATA-certified travel agency in Hyderabad serving travellers from across India since 2011. We can arrange this same route, or a similar one, as a custom package for your couple, family or group, on your own dates and with your choice of hotels. Who this tour suits
First-time visitors to Italy, honeymooners, families and senior travellers who want the essential sights without planning trains, transfers and museums on their own. A Tour Director travels with you, the coach carries your bags from city to city, and each city has a guided tour, with free time left for gelato, shopping or simply watching Italian life go by.
Why go
The week begins in Rome, the Eternal City, where almost every street corner holds two thousand years of history. With your Local Guide you start at St Peter’s Square, embraced by Bernini’s great colonnade in front of the basilica, then follow the Tiber past the white marble Pyramid of Caius Cestius, a Roman tomb built in the Egyptian style, the brick Aurelian Walls and the ruins of the Baths of Caracalla, where Romans once bathed by the thousand. On foot you cross the long field of the Circus Maximus, where chariots raced before crowds of 150,000, walk under the Arch of Constantine and arrive at the Colosseum, the arena that still sums up the power of ancient Rome.
The road north runs through the Tuscany of postcards: rolling hills, lines of cypress trees, vineyards and silver-green olive groves. In Pisa, a little train carries you to the Square of Miracles, where the cathedral, the baptistery and the famous Leaning Tower stand on a lawn of bright green, and everyone tries the classic photo of holding the tower up. By evening you are in Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance.
Florence is best seen on foot, and your guided walk shows you why Michelangelo, Leonardo and Botticelli all called it home. You begin at Piazza Santa Croce, continue to Piazza della Signoria and the fortress-like Palazzo Vecchio, and pass the open-air sculpture gallery of the Loggia dei Lanzi. Then the city’s skyline opens up: the red dome of the Duomo, Giotto’s slender Bell Tower and the gilded bronze doors of the Baptistery, so beautiful that Michelangelo called them the Gate of Paradise. The evening ends with dinner together.
Crossing the Apennines and the wide Po river, you reach Verona, Shakespeare’s setting for Romeo and Juliet. Its Roman Arena, built for gladiators, still fills with opera lovers on summer nights, and the marble lanes around Via Mazzini are made for strolling and shopping. Then comes Venice. A boat carries you across the lagoon to St Mark’s Square, with the golden basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the bell tower all around you, and a visit to a glass workshop shows the fire-and-breath craft that made the island of Murano famous. Take a gondola under the little bridges, or sit at a café with a cappuccino or a spritz and let Venice do the rest. Your last evening ends with dinner.
Don’t miss
The first sight of the Colosseum. The Leaning Tower against a blue Tuscan sky. The Gate of Paradise in Florence. Juliet’s Verona. A gondola at dusk on the Venice canals.
Why go now
April to June and September to October are the best months for Italy, with pleasant days for walking tours and fewer crowds than July and August, when Rome and Florence are hot and busy. Easter and the summer holidays fill hotels early, so book a few months ahead for those dates. Winter is quiet and cheaper, and Venice in the mist has a magic of its own.
Good to know
This is a price on request tour: we quote for your dates, hotel category and group size. Italy is in the Schengen area, so you need a Schengen visa, and our visa team can guide you. The guided tours are walking tours on cobbled streets, so bring comfortable shoes. Churches, including St Peter’s Basilica, ask for covered shoulders and knees. Your hotels in the Venice area are on the mainland, a short ride from the historic centre. Vegetarian food is easy to find all over Italy, from pizza and pasta to risotto.
