Levi (2N) – Kilpisjärvi (3N) – Tromsø (2N)
A slow, cosy Arctic winter — mostly in Finnish Lapland. Five of the seven nights are in Finland: two in a glass cabin in Levi and three in Kilpisjärvi, a tiny wilderness village where Finland, Norway and Sweden meet. The trip ends with two nights in Tromsø and a Northern Lights cruise on the fjords. It suits couples, honeymooners and families who want real Lapland experiences — ice fishing, snowmobiling, reindeer and saunas — with most dinners included and private airport transfers.
Kilpisjärvi is the heart of the trip. Far from city lights, it is one of the darkest corners of Lapland, so every clear night is a chance of the aurora. Over three days you ride a snowmobile across the fells, meet reindeer and the Sami people who herd them, walk out on snowshoes under the stars and end each evening in a Finnish sauna. Don’t miss the first night in Levi: your glass cabin lets you watch for the Northern Lights without leaving your bed.
Then Tromsø. A scenic bus crosses into Arctic Norway for a 5-hour island tour of the Arctic capital and a 3-hour Northern Lights cruise on a catamaran — a last chance at the aurora from the water.
Why go now? This tour runs from December to March, when the snow is deep and the nights are long. Glass cabins and the small Kilpisjärvi hotel have very few rooms, so Christmas, New Year and February dates fill months ahead. Good to know: Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and no one can guarantee them. The activities are scheduled small-group tours, and Kilpisjärvi activities may be rearranged for weather.
