Germany’s Christmas markets, by river. This short cruise sails the Rhine from Düsseldorf to Koblenz, Mainz, Rüdesheim and Cologne in the weeks when German towns fill with Christmas lights, mulled wine and roasted almonds. You unpack once, all meals are on board from the welcome dinner to the last breakfast, and the ship does the travelling. It suits couples, families and senior travellers who want a festive Europe break without hotel changes or long coach days.
Five Rhine towns. Koblenz sits at the Deutsches Eck, where two rivers meet below vineyards and forests. Mainz is a 2,000-year-old cathedral city with a medieval core. Rüdesheim is the Rhine’s favourite wine town — the ship stays overnight, so don’t miss its lanes lit up in the evening. Cologne, Germany’s oldest city, is famous for its cathedral and some of the country’s best-known Christmas markets.

Why go now? Christmas cruises run on a handful of December dates only, and river ships carry a limited number of cabins. Germany is a Schengen country — our team arranges your Schengen visa with the booking. Apply early: December is peak season at the visa centres.
Good to know: embarkation is from 4 pm on Day 1 in Düsseldorf, and you disembark after breakfast on Day 5. Dinner on Day 1, full board on Days 2 to 4 (including the Captain’s Dinner) and breakfast on Day 5 are included. The guided walks in Koblenz and Cologne are optional, and entrance fees are not included. Christmas markets usually run from late November to late December. Flights to and from Düsseldorf are booked separately — our team can book them for you, from any Indian city — and we can add hotel nights before or after the cruise. Arrive in Düsseldorf and transfer to the ship. Before boarding, there is time for the Königsallee and the old town’s bars and restaurants. Embarkation starts at 4 pm, followed by a welcome dinner. Dinner included. Overnight on board.
The ship reaches Koblenz around breakfast time. Explore the Deutsches Eck and the old town’s churches, palaces and mansions, with an optional guided walk (entrance fees not included). Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight on board.
Wake up in Mainz and explore the cathedral quarter and the half-timbered houses around the Kirschgarten. In the afternoon, arrive in Rüdesheim to see Brömser Castle, the Adler Tower and the wine taverns; the ship stays overnight here. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight on board in Rüdesheim.
Sail down the Rhine and arrive in Cologne after lunch. Visit the cathedral and the Christmas markets, with an optional guided walk (entrance fees not included). In the evening, enjoy the Captain’s Dinner as the ship heads to Düsseldorf. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight on board in Düsseldorf.
After breakfast, disembark. If time allows, stroll through the Christmas stalls of Düsseldorf’s old town before your onward journey. End of the cruise. Breakfast included.
