If you could take only one long holiday in Europe, this might be it. Seventeen days by train carry you from London across the Channel to Amsterdam and Paris, up into the Swiss Alps, past the Rhine Falls and on through Mozart’s Salzburg to the two great capitals of Central Europe, Prague and Budapest. This 17 Days Europe tour with Prague and Budapest gives you the hotels, trains, passes and main sightseeing in one plan, with time to wander at your own pace. It is planned and supported by IMAD Travel, an IATA-certified travel agency in Hyderabad serving travellers from across India since 2011. Who this tour suits
Travellers who have saved for the big Europe trip and want to see it properly: couples, honeymooners, retired travellers, families with older children and friends travelling together. There is no Tour Director and no coach group. You follow your own timing each day, with all train tickets and passes ready before you leave India, and our team briefs you on every connection.
Why go
The first week is the Europe everyone dreams of. A private car meets you in London, and a hop-on hop-off day with a Thames cruise and the London Eye shows you Buckingham Palace, Westminster and the Tower. The Eurostar takes you to Amsterdam for a canal cruise among the gabled houses, and the train continues to Paris, where you stand on the 2nd level of the Eiffel Tower, float down the Seine and spend your evenings on the Champs-Élysées and in the Latin Quarter.
Then the high-speed TGV runs to Basel and Switzerland opens up with your 4-day Swiss Travel Pass. Three nights in Lucerne give you Mt Titlis, with the revolving Rotair, the glacier cave and the Titlis Cliff Walk, a Lake Lucerne cruise, the wooden Chapel Bridge and the Lion Monument, plus a free day for Grindelwald First or Jungfraujoch. From Zurich you ride out to the Rhine Falls, where the whole river thunders over the rocks in clouds of spray.
The second week turns east, into the old heart of Europe. Salzburg is all baroque domes, church bells and Mozart: you pass the Mirabell Gardens, Mozart’s birthplace and Nonnberg Abbey below the Hohensalzburg Fortress. In Prague, the city of a hundred spires, the hop-on bus climbs to Prague Castle above the red roofs of Malá Strana, and on foot you cross the statue-lined Charles Bridge to the Old Town Square, where crowds gather every hour to watch the figures of the medieval Astronomical Clock come to life.
The finale is Budapest, two cities joined by the Danube. From the open-top bus you see the neo-Gothic Parliament, Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion, Heroes’ Square and the great Dohány Street Synagogue. Walk across the Chain Bridge from Buda to Pest, and if you have an evening free, soak in a thermal bath or watch the Parliament glow gold from the riverbank. After seventeen days, it is a beautiful place to say goodbye to Europe.
Don’t miss
London from the London Eye. Paris from the Eiffel Tower. The ice cave on Mt Titlis. The Astronomical Clock striking the hour in Prague. The Danube at night in Budapest.
Why go now
April to June and September to October are the best months for this route: pleasant weather from London to Budapest, the Swiss lifts open and fewer crowds than in July and August. Summer and school holidays fill trains and hotels early, so plan two to three months ahead. December brings the Christmas markets of Salzburg, Prague and Budapest, with colder days and snow in the Alps.
Good to know
This is a price on request tour: we quote for your dates, hotel category and group size.
