Meet our representative in Jodhpur and travel to Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer, in the heart of the Thar Desert, is a city steeped in colour and rich tradition. It was once a major trading hub on the route connecting India and the west. When you arrive in Jaisalmer, check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free. In Jaisalmer, spend the night.
After breakfast, depart for a half-day tour of Jaisalmer. Visit the Jaisalmer Fort, India's only living fort that houses the entire township within its ramparts. Visit Salim Singh ki Haveli, which was built around 300 years ago, and Patwon-ki-Haveli, Jaisalmer's largest and most elaborate mansion of its kind, followed by a visit to Nathmal Ji ki Haveli, a grand mansion that combines Rajput and Islamic architecture.
After that, drive past the lovely Gadisar Lake and Badal Vilas, the current home of the erstwhile royal family. After that, go to Sam Sand Dunes, which are about 42 kilometres from Jaisalmer and are the closest place to get lost in "The Great Thar Desert." The rest of the day is free. In Jaisalmer, spend the night.
Proceed to Jodhpur after breakfast. When you arrive in Jodhpur, check into your hotel. In Jodhpur, spend the night.
After breakfast, depart for a half-day sightseeing tour of Jodhpur, Rajasthan's second largest city and also known as the "Sun City." Explore the Mehrangarh Fort. This magnificent red sandstone fort stands on a perpendicular cliff above Jodhpur's skyline. The fort's foundations were laid in 1459, and it now houses a museum with a fine collection of arms, costumes, paintings, and even a collection of palanquins. Visit the Jaswant Thada, a marble cenotaph built to honour Maharaja Jaswant Singh II.
The entire monument is made of intricately carved sheets of marble. These stones are so thin and polished that when the sun's rays dance across their surface, they emit a warm glow. Later, drive past the Mandore garden, which features cenotaphs of Jodhpur's former rulers; these cenotaphs are built along the lines of a Hindu temple, rather than the usual umbrella-shaped cenotaphs. The rest of the day is free. In Jodhpur, spend the night.
Following breakfast, you will be transferred to Jodhpur airport for your return flight home.
