Chandra tal, Spiti, Himachal pradesh - 10 Best Destinations For A Winter Honeymoon In India

The best winter honeymoon destinations in India are Kashmir, Manali and Auli if you want snow, Goa, Andaman and Lakshadweep if you want beaches, and Kerala, Udaipur and the hill stations of Darjeeling, Ooty and Coorg if you want something in between. Winter, November to February, is India’s best honeymoon season. The mountains turn white, the beaches are at their calmest, and the plains are finally cool enough to explore.

Most Indian weddings happen in exactly these months, so this is when most couples are planning. Below are the 14 places we send honeymooners to most in winter, which month suits each one, the two places we don’t recommend in winter, and how many days you actually need.

Every winter honeymoon IMAD plans is a private trip: hand-picked hotels, a private car with driver, and the honeymoon touches arranged in advance. Tell us your wedding date and the kind of honeymoon you’re imagining, and Priyanka’s desk will send options the same working day.

Which Are the Best Winter Honeymoon Destinations in India?

For snow, choose Kashmir, Manali, Shimla or Auli. For a beach, choose Goa, Andaman or Lakshadweep. For something gentle and romantic, choose Kerala, Udaipur, Darjeeling, Ooty or Coorg. The right one depends less on the destination and more on what the two of you picture when you say “honeymoon”.

A simple way to decide:

  • You want snow in your photos → Kashmir is the most reliable, then Manali and Auli.
  • You want warm sun and sea → Andaman for the best water, Goa for the easiest trip, Lakshadweep for real seclusion.
  • You want both → combine a snow destination with a beach one. Kashmir with Goa, or Manali with Andaman, works well in 8 to 10 days.
  • You want slow and romantic, with no long drives → Kerala’s houseboats or Udaipur’s lake palaces.

Each one is described below, grouped by the kind of honeymoon it gives you.

Where Can You Have a Snow Honeymoon in India?

Kashmir is the surest place for a snow honeymoon in India, followed by Manali, Auli and Shimla. Snow is most reliable from late December to February. If snow is the whole point of your trip, avoid November, when most of these places are cold but not yet white.

Kashmir — Gulmarg, Srinagar and Pahalgam

Kashmir is the classic Indian winter honeymoon, and for good reason. Gulmarg is under deep snow from December, and its gondola climbs to snowfields where you can ski, sledge or simply sit with a kahwa and look at the Himalaya. In Srinagar, a night on a Dal Lake houseboat, with a shikara ride at sunrise, is the moment most couples remember. The coldest stretch, Chillai Kalan, runs from late December to the end of January. It’s beautiful, but pack properly.

Six days lets you split the trip between Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam without rushing. See our Kashmir tour packages.

Manali

Manali is the easiest snow honeymoon to reach from most of India. In winter, Solang Valley has snow activities, and the Atal Tunnel takes you through to Sissu, a white valley on the other side, when the weather allows. Rohtang Pass is closed in winter, so don’t plan around it. Old Manali’s riverside cottages and cafés make the evenings as good as the days. See our Himachal Pradesh packages.

Shimla, Kufri and Narkanda

Shimla gives you a colonial hill town, Mall Road walks and cosy heritage hotels. Snow falls in good years, usually late December to January, but it isn’t guaranteed in town. For a better chance, stay a night higher up at Kufri or Narkanda. Shimla pairs naturally with Manali on a 7- to 8-day trip.

Auli

Auli, in Uttarakhand, is India’s ski destination: wide snow slopes, oak forests and some of the best views of Nanda Devi. It’s quieter and more adventurous than Manali, and best from January to February, when the snow is deepest. See our Uttarakhand tour packages.

Which Beach Destinations Are Best for a Winter Honeymoon in India?

Andaman, Goa and Lakshadweep are the best winter honeymoon beaches in India. November to February brings calm seas, clear water and dry, sunny days. If one of you feels the cold, this is your answer.

Andaman Islands

The Andaman Islands have the clearest water in India. Radhanagar Beach on Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) is regularly listed among Asia’s best beaches, and Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep) is quieter still. Snorkelling, a sunset at Radhanagar, and a candlelight dinner on the sand are the core of an Andaman honeymoon. Six days is the right length, because the islands are linked by ferry. See our Andaman tour packages.

Goa

Goa is the easiest beach honeymoon in India: short flights from everywhere, beautiful villas, and a choice between the busy north and the quiet south. South Goa’s beaches and boutique resorts suit honeymooners best. Christmas and New Year week is Goa’s busiest and most expensive time. If your dates are flexible, the first half of December or mid-January gives you the same weather for less.

Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep is for couples who want the Maldives feeling without leaving India: coral lagoons, very few people and almost no development. Visits need a permit, and accommodation is limited, so book early. Agatti is the gateway, and Bangaram is the honeymoon island. If you’d like to see it by sea, a Cordelia cruise to Lakshadweep is another way in.

Which Romantic Places in India Are Best in Winter Without Snow?

Kerala, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Darjeeling, Ooty, Coorg and Munnar are the best winter honeymoon places in India for couples who want cool, pleasant weather rather than snow. Winter is these places’ best season. Most are too hot or too wet at other times of year.

Kerala — Munnar and Alleppey

Kerala gives you two honeymoons in one: cool tea hills in Munnar, then a private houseboat drifting through the Alleppey backwaters. Add a beach night at Varkala or Kovalam to finish. November to February is Kerala’s best weather. See our Kerala tour packages.

Udaipur and Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

Udaipur, the City of Lakes, is India’s most romantic city: palace hotels on Lake Pichola, boat rides at sunset and rooftop dinners facing the water. Winter is the only comfortable time to visit Rajasthan. Add two nights in a Jaisalmer desert camp for a night under the stars on the Sam dunes. See our Rajasthan tour packages.

Darjeeling

Darjeeling in November and December gives you the clearest views of Kanchenjunga all year, a sunrise at Tiger Hill, tea estates and the UNESCO-listed toy train. Nights are cold but rarely snowy. It pairs well with Gangtok in Sikkim. See our Darjeeling packages.

Ooty

Ooty in the Nilgiris is cool and green in winter, with frosty mornings in December and January. Ride the UNESCO-listed Nilgiri Mountain Railway, walk the botanical gardens, and stay in a heritage bungalow. It’s an easy honeymoon from South India.

Coorg

Coorg is coffee country: misty mornings, plantation stays and waterfalls. It’s best for a short, relaxed honeymoon of two or three nights, and an easy drive from Bengaluru.

Munnar

Munnar’s rolling tea gardens are at their coolest and greenest in winter. Most couples combine it with Alleppey, but a plantation resort in Munnar alone makes a lovely short honeymoon.

Which Honeymoon Destination in India Suits Each Winter Month?

November suits beaches and Rajasthan, December suits Kashmir, Goa and Darjeeling, January is the peak month for snow, and February is the best all-round month for almost everywhere. If your wedding date is fixed, plan around the month.

Honeymoon destinations in India in November

November is the start of the season. Choose Andaman, Goa, Kerala, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Darjeeling or Ooty. The beaches are calm and uncrowded, Rajasthan is comfortably cool, and Darjeeling has its clearest mountain views. The mountains of the north are cold but usually not yet snowy, so November isn’t the month for a snow honeymoon.

Honeymoon destinations in India in December

December is the most popular honeymoon month. Choose Kashmir, Manali, Goa, Andaman, Kerala or Udaipur. Snow arrives in Gulmarg and Manali in the second half of the month. Christmas to New Year is the busiest week everywhere, especially Goa, so book early or travel either side of it.

Honeymoon destinations in India in January

January is the coldest month and the most reliable for snow. Choose Kashmir, Auli, Manali or Shimla for snow, or Andaman, Lakshadweep, Kerala or Udaipur for warmth. After the New Year rush, prices ease and the beaches are quieter.

Honeymoon destinations in India in February

February is the best all-round month: snow is still deep in Kashmir and Auli, and the beaches and Rajasthan are at their best. Almost everywhere on this list works in February. It’s also the most popular month for weddings, so the good hotels fill up.

Which Places Should You Avoid for a Winter Honeymoon?

Leh-Ladakh and Spiti Valley are wonderful, but we don’t recommend them for a winter honeymoon. Temperatures fall to minus 20°C and below, many roads and passes close, and hotels shut for the season. They’re expeditions in winter, not honeymoons. Visit them between May and September instead.

Also avoid planning a honeymoon around Rohtang Pass in Manali, which is closed in winter. And don’t count on snow in Shimla town itself. Plan a night at Kufri or Narkanda if snow matters.

How Many Days Do You Need for a Winter Honeymoon in India?

Plan 5 Days 4 Nights for one destination, and 7 to 10 days if you want to combine two. Winter days are short in the mountains, and travel between hill stations takes time, so don’t try to pack in too much.

What Is Included in an IMAD Winter Honeymoon Package?

Every IMAD winter honeymoon package includes hand-picked hotels, a private car with driver throughout, sightseeing at your own pace, and honeymoon inclusions arranged with the hotel. Flights can be added, or booked by you.

What our winter honeymoon packages usually include:

  • Hotels chosen for couples — heritage properties, boutique resorts, houseboats and private villas, not tour-group hotels
  • A private car with driver, including snow-chain vehicles where the roads need them
  • The honeymoon touches — flower decoration, a cake, and a candlelight dinner at most hotels
  • Activities booked in advance — the Gulmarg gondola, a Dal Lake shikara, an Alleppey houseboat, snorkelling in Andaman
  • One coordinator — Priyanka’s desk, on WhatsApp, for the whole trip

Prices depend on your dates, hotel category and trip length, so we quote your exact honeymoon rather than a brochure price. You can also book just the hotels and car if you already have flights. For more ideas in India and abroad, see all our honeymoon packages.

When Should You Book a Winter Honeymoon in India?

Book 6 to 8 weeks ahead, or 3 months ahead for Christmas, New Year and February wedding-season dates. The best honeymoon rooms (lake-view suites in Udaipur, beach villas in Andaman, houseboats in Srinagar) sell out first.

Two money-saving tips from experience:

  • Avoid the 24 December to 2 January window if you can. Prices in Goa, Kashmir and Manali are at their highest.
  • Mid-January to early February gives you peak winter weather with fewer crowds.
